How to Get Involved

Awareness

Believe Survivors

Believe Survivors

  • Share our flyers for missing and cold cases in your area. If you share on social media, tag the appropriate law enforcement agency and our Task Force.
  • If you work for an agency or institution that could benefit from MMIR training, reach out to us.
  • Check the Upcoming Events tab for local events you can attend. We always need bigger crowds!
  • Organize a candle light vigil for MMIRs in your area, consider holding it on the anniversary or their birthday.
  • Sign up to receive the Missing Indigenous Person Alert

Believe Survivors

Believe Survivors

Believe Survivors

  • Believe survivors and learn about the intersectionality of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, ICWA/foster care and MMIR.
  • Hold your friends and family accountable, you cannot support MMIR work while enabling abusers and predators.
  • Domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking advocacy is MMIR prevention.

Educate Yourself

Believe Survivors

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Learn the process for filing a missing person report where you live so you can educate others on the process. CO does not have a mandatory wait period and those relatives that are unhoused, runaways or are fleeing a warrant can still be reported as missing.
  • Review the data and statistics posted on our site to keep current on how this crisis is impacting Native people here in CO.
  • Print one of the toolkits or guides on our website so you have the information before there is a crisis.

We have some research opportunities through mid April that you could help with remotely. Email us at mmirtaskforceofco@gmail.com with research in the subject line.

What Not To Do

  • If you know something, say something! It is hard to carry the burden of knowing but reports can be made anonymously. Some of the MMIR have potential rewards for information that leads to a conviction.
  • Ask your Elder relatives if they knew anyone on our list; do they remember any details or rumors? Any information at all can be a helpful lead. Do they know of relatives that we need to add to our list?
  • We know of investigations where suspects were identified but there was not enough evidence to charge them. Maybe you have information that could change that.

What Not To Do

Volunteer Opportunities

What Not To Do

  • Do not start yet another MMIR social media group, instead support those already doing the work where you live. This is complicated, heavy work and well meaning but untrained individuals can and have caused significant harm.
  • Do not rebrand flyers. It is always helpful to use the share option for flyers versus saving them and reposting. If you share a flyer from the original source, everyone who sees it will also see the updates. Leaving up flyers for Relatives who have been found is harmful.
  • Don't consider a red hand print or MMIR symbolism a fashion accessory.
  • Don't purchase MMIR merchandise from artists unless you confirm that proceeds actually go to survivors and their families. We do not receive any proceeds.
